If you hate using programs to sort your music then PSP is the way to go just access the memory as a hard drive and drop your music files in there, i bought ipod touch and it was a big mistake you must use itunes to access your files "Not possible to access memory mode without hacks, same with the zune HD)

the thing is im planning on buying the omnia 2 and a new pmp this fall so im guessing i should go with the zune HD because it is a smaller product but im not sure how much better the graphics could be on the PSP go if it's a significant increase (which i doubt) i might buy this instead

MS has mentioned their commitment to tying the zune into the Xbox ecosystem.

I don't think it'd be completely out of left field for them to make a controller accessory that you can insert this thing into. It would not only be great for mobile gaming, but the controller accessory could also be used to control the Xbox 360, and, when attached to it, the Zune HD could also function as a supplementary display when playing 360 on your big screen. At least I HOPE that's where this is all going.

I find it hard to believe that the PSP would have better audio quality than the Zune HD. Got a source on that? At any rate, I can't really imagine trying to choose between a dedicated game handheld and a PMP. If you want to play good games on a device that's meant to play games and where media comes second, get the PSP. If you want a media player that can also play some games that likely won't play as well(due to touchscreen/accelerometer controls vs. actual buttons/control stick) but kicks ass at media and is smaller with better battery life, get the Zune HD. If you're rich and don't have to worry about money, get both. It all depends what's more important to you.

Mark the psp does have better audio quality you can google it but it's interface not that friendly to browse music
the volume is not so high on the psp and can not sort music files like ipod/zune you sort them as files and sub files instead of browsing by playlists/artists etc which is kinda annoying

Of course a dedicated audio device like zune/ipod is better but from audio quality alone i chose my psp over the ipod/zune

@DR House: So far everything I've found(haven't managed to find any comparisons to the Zunes) has shown that the PSP has slightly worse quality than the iPods, which have been shown to have worse quality than the Zunes of every generation. Since the HD has the significantly better audio driver of the 80 and 120, but with an equalizer, I'd expect it to be better than any of the others. Do you have a reliable source for this or is it a personal preference thing?

HD is in reference to the HD Radio that comes with the Zune HD (and I assume HD video) and not the audio quality of the MP3 you are playing. I had an original PSP and the audio quality was great (comparing 320 bitrate). I think its a stretch (at this point) to compare the Zune HD's audio quality to the PSP Go, considering they both have not been released yet.

IMHO, invest in a good set of headphones.

You don't have to use iTunes for the iPod touch.

There are tons of software out there to sync music, pictures, videos, and playlists to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Many are free.

I only use iTunes for updates as needed.

@Puggs: I know, I never claimed it did mean HD audio. It uses the same audio driver from the Zune 80/120(which was higher quality than the 30's which was still higher quality than the iPod's, which everything I've found has said is higher quality than the PSP) but now has an equalizer since the Tegra chipset made it feasible to have such a thing without draining the battery too much. Thus why it has better audio quality than the previous generations.

Can you list some of these apps? The only one I knew of was media Monkey and that apparently stopped syncing after the 3.0 Update.

Battery life is horrible on these things. Sony needs to really do something with making this more energy efficient so you don't have to recharge it as much...

How many hours of playtime are you getting? It could be that your battery needs replacing. It's nice that you can replace it yourself on existing PSPs. Plus carry a spare.

Considering the size difference between the Go and the Slim/Brite, I'd say the battery in the Go looks about the same as the naked Slim's battery (without the black housing). I don't use the UMD drive on my Slim, which increases the battery life on it quite substantially, but I'd expect the Go to have a slightly longer life per charge than the older versions.

The part that pains me is the "non removable battery". After a couple years' use, my Slim's battery doesn't hold a charge for that long... what'll happen when this does the same? Gotta do an Apple thing and send it in?

It's only removable after you've voided the warranty and opened up the internals of the device. It's the same with the iPod; the battery can technically be removed, but it's not a "removable" battery like on cell phones or the old PSP models.

And? The battery shouldn't be non-rechargeable in under a year anyway. The DS3 has the same type (not exact type) of battery that you
have to open the controller to replace. I've had mine for over a year and haven't needed to replace it yet.

I'd guess that 95% of the market are not into surgery. It's great that you find it no problem, but they should have had a battery compartment. Not only for replacement once the old one can't hold much charge, but for spares to swap in and out when travelling.

There's also no option for a long-life battery like previous PSPs.

95% of the market probably aren't into carrying a spare, but I find it useful. I am not in the habit of charging the battery every day to make sure it doesn't run out mid-trip. I just pop the spare in with almost no charge downtime. What's funny is there's no excuse for it, apart from price-gouging on the surgical replacement when the Average User does enough research to figure out it is the battery. You look at the mobile phone market. The digital camera market. The video camera market. While some of these have non-removables, 99% are sanely-designed with external batteries.

95% of percentages are also made up on the spot. I don't think people are that dumb to not know how to use a screwdriver
on the silver colored Phillips head screw; which are in plain view on the underside. That really does not look hard to take apart.
And you only need to do this once every couple of years. But you can't please everybody....

IMO, if you have the 1000 and the 2000 but skipped the 3000, get the Go for your next handheld. It's workplace friendly :)
When the exploits come rolling, I'll be proudly playing homebrew. (which ironically is why it's redesigned in the first place. No more pandora battery!)

Plus Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot.

Max total storage is 32GB, if going that way.
