They better not forget the "Breaking" tag though on them, since as you said these thing are scarcely seen! :p
Exactly Patriks7! I mean, even if they had a sister site of some kind that was strictly about Apple hardware, Apple software, and Apple product accessories (perhaps it could be called The Unofficial Apple Weblog or something...), I would much rather that they post news about them here! Wonderful.
How does covering a third party dock show bias towards Apple? It's not like we told iLuv to make this thing. Don't answer just yet -- let me wrap my head in money from Steve Jobs first.
"How does covering a third party dock show bias towards Apple?"
Start covering third party accessories for other players, then we can talk..
We do. All the time. The fact is that there are more iPod accessories made, so we cover more of them. It's not like we're doing cases and stickers here -- these are actual gadgets. You want to start cranking out Sansa docks, send us PR and we'll put them up on the site, but in the meantime, don't blame us for covering the products that are actually launched in the marketplace.
@Nilay Patel
I don't think anyone would deny that there are more iPod products released than anything else, in fact, I hear Engadget has some sort of Unofficial Apple Weblog because of the large amounts of Apple-related news. Why not pass the little things on to them? (like speakers, cases, headphones, and other iPod accessories)
I come to Engadget for the big news! One would think you'd be happy with that.
Or just cancel TUAW and make Engadget Apple or something.. but from the looks of how Engadget Mobile works, these things will still be showing up here..
Do you realize that if you would just scroll past these and quit looking at them they wouldn't post as many?
It's all about page views and the more time you comes in here and rant about EnGADGET covering something to much the more they will cover it.
Just a thought to me, if I don't like something I scroll right on past. It's pretty easy.
Finally, something about my iPhone. If it isn't about the iPhone, it shouldn't be here. What else matters. Seriously. The iPhone is serously the best thing ever!
At least they don't make cameras :/
iLuv i9500 for iPod....
this is just an unprovoked assault on vowels...
iLol
Reading "iCandy wrote iLuv i9500 for iPhone" is even more so.
Price? Just for reference.
More like iHate
that is just plain Fugly, in metal yes but this noooo, lok at it buuuaaa i wanna cry
45w :S thats not to shabby! my current 2.1 speaker system (logitech x-230) is 32w and pumps fairly decent sound, though i have a feeling its going to be expensive . . .
My question is, how were those 45 watts measured? Are they RMS, or are they peak? Is it 45 watts going into 4, 6, or 8 ohms? Is it 45 watts per channel, or total including the sub?
Considering how deeply we look into things like processor clock speeds, pixel densities, frame rates, etc. of other products, Engadget could do a better job of reporting basic audio specs other than:
"Hey you guys, you can plug your iPod into it! And it hangs on the wall!"
On a side note, given the brazillian iPod docks that do exist and also act as redbook transports, I'd really like to see the sampling rate on the player as well. It'd be really spiffy if it actually could read SACD's DSD encoding. With the huge majority of universal DVD players already being SACD capable, it's not like there's a shortage of pick-ups or processors for the manufacturers to put into their products.
Maybe the manus. just assume if you're listening to an iPod (or any compressed music device), then you don't really care about sound quality anyway.
/wow, I'm grumpy today!
"iLuv certainly isn't lacking in iPod docks these days"
The world isn't either, Engadget.
I'm all for relegating iPod related items to TUAW, but if Engadget absolutely insists on covering every single one of these BPCs, they should at least have the decency to post the tech specs. The useful basics like THD, frequency range, speaker resistance (if we want to consider them replaceable, or disposable), and SPLs (dB/watt/meter).
Then it would be much easier which of these are kind-of-crappy, which are utter crap, and those which are actually worth owning.
A good example of the latter is the Wadia Digital 170i Transport, which is the only iPod dock I know of that can bypass the iPod's internal DAC (generally regarded as utter crap).

(Please do not misconstrue this post as endorsing any Apple product. I just know some of their 3rd party accessories happen to be pretty good.)
/rant off
Everyone is so judgmental!
You don't have to read this and comment if you do not want to!
I want to read it, I just feel that this isn't the appropriate place for this news, which is the reason for commenting (to voice my opinion). Engadget's 'sister site' The Unofficial Apple Weblog should cover all minor Apple related news, such as speakers, headphones, backup batteries, ect. Occasionally, you'd think they could just give the article to TUAW, but they make more money by putting it here (ads*viewers=profit).
What is the point of even having TUAW if they put all the good Apple/Apple product accessory news here? All those poor guys get to do is review things... :P Used to be way cooler. ;(
wao... the design was cool not to mention others things, wondering is it selling in Malaysia already, quite desperate to get one. hehe

Wow. An iPod speaker system. I wish there were more of these. And that Engadget would post them all as news. That would be... dandy.
